In his thought-provoking welcome to convention, Paul presses for financial services Professionals to build a new future; one that’s clearly separate from the “industry” including infrastructure, banks, licensees, super funds and insurance providers. “I want to be really clear,” says Paul, “everyone knows that there’s a medical ‘industry’ and a medical ‘profession’. And, those that are in the medical profession – they say that they’re in the medical profession. Their clients say that they’re in the medical profession. No one questions how vital the medical industry is – the hospitals, the surgical equipment, the drugs, the vaccines, etc – no one is questioning any of that.” He continues: “We have a financial services industry. We, the Professionals, are not it.” ‘We have a financial services industry. We, the Professionals, are not it.’ Paul Kearney Opening Address Securitor Convention “The financial services industry is extremely important: they provide vital tools and services and products that we use to get our job done. And, there are professionals in the industry that are all working hard and doing great things and are there for the right reasons. The industry, by and large, is there for the right reasons. But it’s not us. And right now, we create the confusion. It’s not even clear to us, let alone our clients. I hear us call ourselves ‘industry’ all the time and that has to stop. If we’re going to change the perception of us in the community, we have to stop. We are the profession.” Watch Paul’s full opening address here.
