We have pulled together some of the best events happening in Melbourne in 2024, showcasing all of the excitement our city has to offer. Updated May 2024. Melbourne’s Creative Calendar 2024. Live music. Expect big gigs and big names at Melbourne’s most iconic venues like Rod Laver Arena, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Marvel Stadium and the famous MCG. From blink-182 and Taylor Swift in February to Coldplay and The Kid LAROI in October, 2024 is a huge year for international artists performing in Melbourne. Like a more intimate setting? Catch The Rions at 170 Russell, Boo Seeka in Richmond or The Jungle Giants and Six60 in Torquay. And for those who love a good live show – Ali Wong is heading to Palais Theatre in July and tickets to Anh Do – The Happiest Refugee Live! is at Athenaeum Theatre One are on sale for August. Grease the Musical – 31 Dec — 12 May The motion picture that became a cult classic and catapulted Australia’s Olivia Newton-John to fame is back as a musical at Her Majesty’s Theatre until May. TINA, the Tina Turner Musical –24 Sep — 3 Nov A sing-a-long musical based on the life, times, and songs of Tina Turner. Follow her journey from the church choir of Tennessee to global superstar at Princess Theatre later this year. Beauty and The Beast – 6 Jun — no end date Not seen on Australian shores in almost 20 years, this ultimate Disney classic makes a welcomed return to Melbourne in 2024 at Her Majesty’s Theatre. The Australian Ballet / Victorian State Ballet – Various dates in 2024 The Australian Ballet is bringing some truly beautiful productions to Melbourne in 2024. From Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to Oscar (a new ballet based on the life of Oscar Wilde) there is something for everyone. Our very own Victorian State Ballet are performing some of the classics, including Cinderella and The Nutcracker in August and November at Palais Theatre. Festivals and Events. If there is anything Melbourne knows how to do, it’s put on a festival. Here’s a look at what festivals you can catch this year. Melbourne Food & Wine Festival – Mar Experience one of Australia’s leading culinary experiences, and visit the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival in 2024. From the World’s Longest Lunch and Brunch to special menus at your favourite hot spots. Private dinners and feats to cooking workshops hosted by famous chefs. It’s a Melbourne must-do this year. Melbourne International Comedy Festival – 27 Mar – 21 Apr The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is back again in 2024. Fire up the group chat, round up your friends and get ready to giggle. The festival has a mix of international, Australian and kids comedy on offer. RISING – 1 Jun – 16 Jun RISING (music, art and culture under moonlight) is back for another year, and it is not to be missed! There is something for everyone, from visual art and installations, to performances and unique food experiences. Melbourne Fringe – 1-20 October Melbourne’s biggest celebration of independent arts is back for 2024. Only the dates for Melbourne Fringe have been released so far, but we’re excited already! Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius at THE LUME – Opens 16 Mar This exhibit is dedicated to exploring the life of the greatest creative genius the world has ever known, Leonardo da Vinci. From Mar 16, step inside the world’s most famous works of art as the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper come to life on THE LUME Melbourne’s colossal canvas. Joy at Immigration Museum – on until Aug 29 2025 Joy brings the Immigration Museum to life with an emotive adventure where creativity, colour and storytelling join forces to take you on a transformative journey. Seven newly commissioned installations by seven leading Victorian-based creatives offer a unique opportunity to experience the power and meaning of joy. Pharoah at NGV – 14 Jun – 6 Oct The NGV has partnered with the British Museum to present Pharaoh, a landmark exhibition that celebrates three thousand years of ancient Egyptian art and culture. This extensive exhibition unpacks the phenomenon of pharaoh, showcasing more than 500 objects from jewellery to architecture. Film and Literature Festivals. Melbourne Writers Festival – 6 — 12 May The Melbourne Writers Festival is an annual event hosted in the CBD, featuring a variety of author talks, book discussions, signings, interactive workshops, and readings. It attracts a diverse crowd of both international and local authors and writers, making it a highlight for literary enthusiasts. Melbourne International Film Festival – 8 — 25 Aug Melbourne International Film Festival is a not for profit that has become the leading film festival in Australia!
